The Greater Chicago Food Depository is having a busy summer. On June 1st, in collaboration with Access Living, the Chicago area’s largest food bank released a first-of-its-kind Disability Study that looks at the hurdles people with disabilities have in accessing nutritious food. Food Depository CEO Kate Maehr discussed the study on ABC7’s NewsViews and Justin Kaufmann’s The Download on WGN-Radio. In addition, the organization has been active providing summer meals to kids in Chicago while they’re out of school. An NBC5 Making a Difference story showed how important it is for children to get healthy meals while they’re on summer break; that’s because they’re not receiving free and reduced-price meals as they do during the school year. In 2016, the Food Depository served more than 560,000 nutritious meals at 278 partner sites, and both numbers will grow this summer.
